Salmon Fishing in the Yemen

Alfred Jones, a nebbishy British scientist trapped in a loveless marriage, is called upon by a Yemeni sheik seeking to introduce salmon to the rivers of Yemen. Jones slowly warms to the idea, and finds himself caught up in a tangle of baffling and hilarious political shenanigans. Though told primarily via emails and memos, Jones`s personality shines through, and first-time author Paul Torday does an excellent job depicting his character`s slow awakening from decades of torpidity to become passionately involved in a quixotic quest.
